Scifiniti, in partnership with the Training Centre in Communication (TCC Africa), is hosting its first joint webinar on Peer Review & Research Integrity and Scifiniti’s third webinar overall. This focused session aims to strengthen researcher capacity in ethical peer review and responsible publishing.

The event comes at a time when issues such as peer-review manipulation, rising global retractions, and integrity breaches have heightened the urgency for stronger, more transparent review systems. By bringing together leading experts and covering a broad range of sessions, the webinar will equip researchers, reviewers, and editors with practical strategies, insights, and tools to strengthen the integrity, transparency, and effectiveness of the peer review process.

Opening remarks will be delivered by Mr. Harrison Weda and Ms. Joy Owango of TCC Africa, along with Mr. Qasit Malik, Publishing Director at Scifiniti, who will provide an overview of the collaboration and outline the event's structure.

The program brings together leading voices in research integrity and scholarly communication. The session lineup includes:

  • Dr. Nicholas Outa (TCC Africa Trainer) – “Bias in Peer Review”
Focusing on how to recognize and mitigate bias during the peer review process.

  • Dr. Daniela Saderi (PREreview) – “Open Peer Review: A Pathway to Trust and Transparency in Research” Highlighting how open peer review enhances trust, transparency, and collaboration within the research community.

  • Johanssen Obanda (Crossref) – “How Crossref Strengthens Research Integrity”
Emphasizing Crossref’s role in supporting robust and connected peer review systems through persistent identifiers and metadata standards.

  • Dr. Ivan Oransky (Co-founder, Retraction Watch) – “Retractions: On the Rise, But Not Enough”
Discussing the increasing number of retractions and the continued need for stronger mechanisms to correct the scientific record.

  • Dr. Hanieh Yaghootkar (Editor-in-Chief, GenoMed Connect, Scifiniti) – “Strengthening Peer Review Workflows: Scifiniti’s Approach”
Focusing on efficiency, integrity, and technology-driven solutions that support both authors and reviewers.

The webinar will conclude with an interactive discussion and Q&A session moderated by Ms. Joy Owango of TCC Africa, allowing participants to engage with experts, exchange insights, and explore practical strategies to advance trust and transparency in research.
